Purpose:
For the short term prevention and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

Budesonide 50mcg per spray
General:
Action and use
Butacort 50 Aqueous Nasal Spray contains a corticosteroid used for the short term prevention and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
Instructions for use:
Shake the bottle well before use
Remove the dust cap from the nasal applicator
Prime the pump by firmly pressing downwards in the white collar. Repeat until a fine spray is produced. The nasal spray is now ready for use
It will not require repriming unless infrequently used or disassembled
Gently blow your nose to clear the nostrils. Tilt your head forward slightly, close one nostril and carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril
Holding the bottle upright, press firmly downwards once or twice on the white collar to deliver the number of sprays required. Breathe gently inwards through the nostril
Then breathe out through your mouth
Repeat the procedure in the other nostril
Replace the dust cap
Cleaning:
Remove the dust cap, press gently upwards in the white collar and the nasal applicator will come free. Wash the applicator and dust cap under a cold tap. Dry and replace.If the nasal applicator becomes blocked, remove the dust cap, unscrew the pump mechanism from the bottle and soak it in warm water for a few minutes. Rinse under a cold tap, dry and reassemble on the bottle
Note:
Butacort is not intended it give immediate relief. Generally it will take a few days to achieve the full effect. It is therefore important that you use your spray regularly at the times recommended
Treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis should start before exposure to allergens, if possible
Side effects:
Occasionally sneezing attacks may follow immediately after the use of Butacort. Slight secretions of blood may also appear in the mucus. If either of these side effects persist, or any other side effects develop, consult with your pharmacist or doctor
Other less common side effects include itching of the nose, throat and ears, sore throat and dry mouth. There may also be a strong smell of spray. Check with your pharmacist if unsure
Warning and Precautions:
Do not use Butacort if you have a severe nasal or sinus infection, have re-occurring nasal bleeding or haemorrhagic diathesis
- Do not use Butacort for children under 12 years of age, without first consulting with your doctor
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking other corticosteroid medication, consult with your doctor before using Butacort
- If you have recently had an injury or surgery to your nose, or problems with ulceration in your nose, consult with your doctor before using Butacort
- If you experience acute eye pain or visual disturbance, consult with your doctor
- If you develop signs or symptoms of infection such as fever, nasal or facial pain or swelling, discoloured or purulent (pus containing) nasal discharge or bleeding from the nose, consult with your doctor
- Do not exceed the stated number of sprays each day
- If your hayfever symptoms have not improved within 7 days of using Butacort, consult with your doctor
- Do not use Butacort for more than 6 months except on medical advice
- Do not use Butacort if you have an allergy to Budesonide
Store below 250C but do not refrigerate
Keep the bottle in an upright position
Protect from light
Keep out of reach of children
Discard three months after first using spray
Dosage:
(unless otherwise specified by your doctor)
For adults and children over 12 years: Initially one or two sprays into each nostril twice a day (morning and night), then after 2 to 3 days, one spray into each nostril twice a day.
For patients with only mild initial symptoms, a dosage of one spray into each nostril twice a day may be sufficient.
